Disney's Dumbo — Mom on the Monorail

This morning we celebrated the release of the live action Dumbo with the kids. We surprised them with a fun Dumbo themed breakfast. Anyone who knows Malie knows she is obsessed with Dumbo, so much so she asks me to ride Dumbo daily. She was pretty excited when she came downstairs this morning. Kids are the BEST right? You make breakfast and throw a couple of toys on the table with balloons and they are estatic.

This fun breakfast setup was SO easy. I made these peanut butter clusters that I found on the Disney Family site. We already had the book and stuffed dumbo - thanks Target! I picked up the popcorn containers and balloons from Party City for less than $5. Ta-Da!!!! Super easy and fun setup that 100% made my kids day.

Disney’s (live action) Dumbo review! No spoilers!!! Patrick and I were able to sneak away last night and see the new Dumbo. I’ve been really looking forward to his one! I have some thoughts to share that won’t spoil the movie if you haven’t seen it just yet.

Let’s start with the negatives. I wasn’t a huge fan of the story line. The original tells such a loving story about Dumbo. While this script did deliver a heartwarming story it lacked in places and just wasn’t the same. I also was really disappointed with the music. I really wanted to hear a full rendition of Baby MIne and Pink Elephants, and while they do pay homeage to the original songs it wasn’t near enough in my opinion. I also thought the movie itself was a bit long; it basically doubles the original. Now for some positives! Dumbo is really cute. Everything he does, every emotion he shows made my eyes water. He really is too cute for words. I also thought the movie was visually pleasing. I enjoyed the costumes and cgi that went into making the movie. Overall it’s still a fun family movie!

I know with remakes especially live action ones you can’t always stick to the original script and things are changed up. I have loved many of the past live action movies Disney has put out despite story line changes, but with Dumbo the changes seemed too extreme for me. I think as far as Dumbo goes you just can’t beat the classic! :) If you’ve seen the new live action let me know what you thought!
