Building a Droid at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

I’ve had the opportunity to visit Hollywood Studios’ newest land a few times! Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge takes you to the far off planet of Batuu and immerses you in all things Star Wars. From flying the Millennium Falcon to sipping the Blue Milk to shopping at various outpost shops there is something for everyone! On our most recent trip we were able to take our kids (Malie and Maverick) for their first visit to Batuu, and everyone’s first visit to the Droid Depot. I’ll share the pros and cons of our experience in this blog post!

To start off we booked our reservation at the Droid Depot in advance. You can book reservations starting 180 days in advance, and I highly recommend this! It makes planning your day at Hollywood Studios that much easier. We were told while checking in for our reservation that only one adult could participate. One adult per droid. This was a bummer to us as I’ve seen others have two parents at their station, but we rolled with what we were told. It worked out ok though, Maverick and I stayed on the outside of the building stations while Patrick and Malie built our droid + I was able to get lots of photos and videos.

Malie is 3.5 years old and she enjoyed building our Droid! I was a little nervous she may be a bit too young, but she was very into it the entire time. After deciding on the BB-series (no offense R2) she picked the colors, she helped assemble, and hit the button to activate our newest little family member.

The cost was $99.99 plus tax. That is a pretty hefty price tag for a souvenir, but this is more than your ordinary souvenir. We thought the quality of the droid matched the price. .We were lucky in the sense that Maverick basically had no idea what was happening ha! Only having Malie make a droid didn’t phase him and spared our wallet. In a few years when they both want to build one we may have to reevaluate if that price is worth it.

Your finished Droid is good size and it comes with a carrying case which makes it even bulkier. We have a double stroller in the parks with us and were able to store it underneath. If you are in the parks without a bigger stroller be prepared to carry your new friend around for the remainder of your park day. The carrying case did make transporting our Droid home much easier, it was the perfect size carry-on!

At the end of the day I would recommend this experience! It’s great for a range of ages and for kids just being introduced to Star Wars like Malie. Plus you can’t put a price on making those sweet family memories. I think Patrick enjoyed the experience just as much as Malie, and they got to do it all together!
