5 Tips for Run Disney Princess Weekend

You guys can you believe it? Princess Weekend is HERE! In just 4 short days I’ll be heading down to Walt Disney World to run the Princess 10K. As I prep for my own trip I thought I would share some tips that I’ve learned over the years running this Run Disney Event.

  • Triple check your packing list! The last thing you want to do is get down to Disney and have forgotten something important for your run. Sure there are ways to get items you may have left back at home, but that’s wasted money people! Two of my must have race day items are this Mylar blanket for early mornings in the corrals, and this Megababe chaffing stick.

  • Schedule ample time for the Expo. I made mistakes early in my Run Disney career of thinking we’ll just run to the expo “real quick” to get our race bibs. Nope. Don’t do that. First off there are a lot of runners at the Expo, allow time to navigate fellow runners and the lines to get your race gear/bib. Secondly you will WANT to spend time exploring the Expo. Vendors are set up offering great products and deals + you’ll need to check out all the Run Disney merch!

  • Stay off your feet the day prior to your race. The day before races I religiously stay off my feet as much as possible after lunch. That means no parks, no rides, etc. It does give me time to enjoy our resort + catch an early bedtime for the early wake up call!

  • Do not try to PR. A Run Disney race is not the place to try and achieve a personal best time. There are simply too many runners on the course. Plus you’ll miss all the fun! How many races are you running through parks and by characters? Make the most of it! Take in the sights and sounds of spectators cheering you on through Epcot. And please stop and take pictures!

  • Indulge in a delicious meal after the race. One of my favorite traditions of a Run Disney weekend is to book a dining reservation for dinner the day of my race. This gives me time to shower and take a nap after the race! Then we head out for a evening of fun sporting our new bling. Last year we went to Ohana, highly recommend a dinner buffet. Celebrate - You’ve earned it!

Good luck to everyone running this weekend! Be respectful to your fellow runners and walkers. Remember runners to the right and walkers to the left! Stay hydrated. Most importantly HAVE FUN! I hope to see some of you on the course this weekend. Every mile is magic!
