Flying to Hawaii

Well guys we did it! We handled two 9 hour non-stop flights with our 3 and 1 year olds, and now I actually feel like I can accomplish anything in life haha. Our kids have flown plenty but it’s always been our quick little one hour flight down to Disney World so this was a new adventure for us!

I packed both kids their own backpack filled with activities! I wanted the kids to be excited with each new item that we pulled out so most were purchased new for the trip. Here are a few of my favorite items we packed and where we purchased them…

  • Activity Play Pack (Target Dollar Spot)

  • Glow Sticks/Bracelets/Necklaces (Amazon/Target)

  • Melissa & Doug Water Wow Book (Amazon)

  • Variety of balls- squishy, light up, etc (Target)

  • Felt Play Set (Target Dollar Spot)

  • Mickey Magnetic Zoo Play Set (Amazon)

  • Play-doh (Amazon/Target)

  • Finger Puppets (Amazon)

  • Foam Building Blocks (Amazon)

  • Wikki Stix (Target)

In addition we had the travel staples like crayons, stickers, notepads, books, etc. We brought headphones as well and the Disney Junior shows Delta offered on their tv’s were a big hit! I purchased the backpacks on amazon, and I was really pleased with them. Great price and plenty of pockets to help me stay organized. You can take a look at them here.

I’m going to toot my own horn for a moment and mention how I packed all four of us in two suitcases for this week long trip across the country! Patrick said I deserved a prize, and I brought that home in form of a new Dooney & Bourke from Aulani ;) My secret was packing cubes and compression bags. I’ve been using packing cubes for a year now and they are great! I prefer to use them for the kids clothes. Since they are small in size I can pack all of their clothes in one set of packing cubes. Adding the compression bags this trip was a a game changer! Patrick and I got all of our clothes in 4 bags and we had extra room in the suitcase for additional packing!

Overall our flight went very smoothly. The ride itself was good, and the kids were literal angels. I actually wondered at one point if we brought the right kids because they were acting so good ha! We flew the non-stop flight from Atlanta to Honolulu with Delta. Delta is like the Disney of the air right? The flight attendants were so attentive to us and the kids, they took great care of us!

I know there are mixed opinions on longer non stop flights, but I have to say our family loved it! Once we got the kids situated and settled that was home for the next 9 hours. We didn’t have to unload, entertain them in another airport, and then reload everyone onto the next plane. I 100% recommend a non stop flight option when traveling longer distances, even with your littles ;)
